bitofthisandthat: Dear ex bestfriend,

Dear ex bestfriend,
First of all — I don’t have an ex bestfriend. So here goes. I suppose I’ll leave this for you to find, Jen. You’re the closest to an ex-bestfriend I’ve ever had. I hope to God that you’re not back in the hellhole I saved you from.

Wouldn’t you like to know? Don’t attempt to ground me again.

Eris stretched out in a high backed chair that was behind Selina, her arms appeared first before her tell-tale animated form took shape, vapor trail by vapor trail. She yawned luxuriously, then leaned casually over the finely carved arm of the throne-like chair, a drink table and stack of books forming idly next to her. She gave her a wry smirk and folded her other arm over the one that draped the wood.

“Hello darling, bring anything exciting with you? News counts.”
She sat back into the chair, her arm being the only thing seen behind the heavy, dark ornate wood of the chair. She gestured flippantly, pointing to another high-back chair that seemed to appear on the other side of the cocktail table. The fireplace arched, and grew, the flames roaring up for a warm chat.
"Sit. It’s been a long journey…From earth to Tartarus…and all those years in-between where I saw nothing of you, here.”
The last words were clipped, and bite-y, Eris lazily reaching for a cognac, not rising, but slouching further, as she waited for her wayward daughter to sit.

“Mother,” Selina greeted with all the respect that was due to the goddess, bowing her head just a fraction before settling in the chair offered. Dark eyes flicked up to meet her parent’s as crimson lips tightened in a mocking grimace. “Honestly, Mother– you’re like a gossiping teenager. Earth is Earth, mortals are as idiotic as ever, and I’m half glad to be here instead of there.” Since having been aware as a child of her less than mortal existence, she’d referred to all humans as mortals, as if she didn’t live among them herself and blend in just as well. She was every inch her mother’s daughter; and had easily inherited Eris’ disdain and sarcastic personality.

“And how have you been? Tartarus is as I remember,” The demigod twisted her head slightly to observe the throne room. “Dark, dismal, and home to a mother I haven’t seen in years. A mother who seemingly hasn’t aged a day since I was twelve and leaving with Father.” Flattery came easily to Selina’s tongue. Teeth glinted between blood red lips as she regarded her godly parent, waiting for an aptly snapping response. Pulling an apple from her pocket, she bit into its crisp flesh. Traveling between worlds could take its toll.

[ tbh it isn’t that bad – i’m a tad bit scared of needles but it wasn’t as bad as i thought it would be. the only thing is that i’m allowed my laptop while i’m waiting out the hour so of course i’m doing or at least attempting to type long things…. yeah. tip: don’t move that much and stay as still as possible – you get little twinges when the needle is moved too much. if you can tolerate the tiny feelings it should be fine but if not just stay still. c: ]

The columns of the goddess’ home were cold and the halls dark, as they’d always been in Selina’s memory. Always foreboding to others, but to the willowy brunette as she stepped through the palace peeking around corners in an effort to catch at least a wisp of its mistress’ presence – it was home. At the very least, it was a place she liked to call home when she wasn’t on Earth. The demigod sighed as she continued her lonely trek through the halls. It was futile to keep looking for her mother – she probably knew where she was, and when she’d arrived the minute she’d stepped foot in the palace.

In retrospect, it might have been a better decision to just wait for Eris to come to her instead of waiting. But the little walk had quickly reacquainted the semi-mortal thief with the place she’d spent half her childhood in. She wandered toward the throne room, letting her voice echo aimlessly as she called out, “Mother– I’m home.”
